Andrea Chapela (Mexico City, 1990) studied Chemistry at UNAM. Her YA fantasy series, Vâudïz, was published from 2008 to 2015 by Spanish publishing house Ediciones Urano. Andrea obtained an MFA in Spanish Creative Writing from the University of Iowa in 2016. In August of the same year, she was awarded the “Jóvenes Creadores” grant by Mexico’s Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes to write a sci-fi short story collection. Her short stories, poems and essays have been published in Literal Magazine, InTranslation, Samovar, Iowa Literaria, Penumbria, and Hiedra Magazine. In 2016- 2017 she worked as a translator from Spanish to English for TranslationPal and as a Spanish language teacher for the University of Iowa and Coe College. For the school year 2017-2018 she will be an artist in residency for the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, Spain.
